Every couple of months, we make a new batch of homemade playdough for our classrooms.
Creating playdough is a favorite among students. They thoroughly enjoy being involved in every step of the process.
Ingredients:
All-purpose flour
Water
Cream of Tartar
Fine Table Salt
Vegetable Oil
Chunky Craft Glitter
Directions:
Step 1: Add 1 cup of flour, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, and 1/3 CUP of fine grain salt to a large bowl.
Step 2: Add 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the flour mixture and stir. If you would like to make your playdough a specific color, now is the time to also add a couple drops of food coloring.
Step 3: Transport your mixture to a saucepan. Heat your burner to medium/low and stir. Cook and stir your playdough. Keep stirring until it starts getting solid. If there are still a few lumps, that’s ok! If you have a gas stove, it should take under 40 seconds. Once the dough starts gathering together around the spoon, you know it’s done.
Step 4: Remove the playdough from the saucepan and put it on some waxed paper or a plate to cool.
Step 5: Once it’s cooled, knead the playdough for a couple minutes to get out any lumps out. If you would like to add glitter and/or a few drops of essential oils, now is the time to do it so you can work them into the playdough as you knead it.
Step 6: Enjoy!
